I recently received an email from Amy Rowland, the Reiki Master who long ago instructed me from knowing absolutely nothing about Reiki all the way to my becoming a Reiki Master. She told me she was recently teaching a Reiki workshop and there was a seven year old boy there with his mother. That is pretty impressive to begin with, but it gets better. He also studies karate too. I can’t imagine doing that at seven, and it took me years to hit my stride as a martial artist.I am now a second degree black belt in the martial art of Aikido Kokikai so my teacher showed the boy and his mother some photos of me taken in a beautiful Japanese Garden while I was wearing my traditional Japanese clothing, known as a gi and hakama. It was very inspirational to the boy who was amazed that someone who looked so strong and formidable would have anything to do with the gentle, healing art of Reiki. I’ve always thought that anyone can hurt someone else, but it takes a different sort of person to heal others, so I happily studied Reiki and have received many wonderful things because of it. The latest being the overwhelming feeling that I’ve helped inspire someone through something I did in the past, and for a totally different reason unknown to me at the time. I don’t teach children in my Aikido Kokikai classes, but I was so moved by this young man’s newfound interest in me, Reiki and Aikido Kokikai that I welled up with happiness and gratitude.
This really proves that “everything matters, all the time”, so do your best at whatever you do, and not only for your own growth. You never know who may be watching or listening, and how you might affect them.
