The other night I went out into our front yard to walk our smallest dog, Lucy the Chihuahua. It was very late, about two thirty am, and very cold, too. As I waited for her to finish her business, I looked up at the beautiful moonlit sky, then down at the newly fallen snow. The moon had a magical glowing ring around it and long, thin, cloud lines across it, and its soft light lit up the snow with shimmering rainbow sparkles everywhere.
As we walked back toward the house, I listened to the sound of Lucy’s little feet crunching on the snow, then my own, then realized it was so still and quiet that I could hear my breath. And if I concentrated just a little bit – my heart beat, too. In the middle of the busy daytime hours while work is being done, decisions are being made and world is very loud, I sometimes forget how beautiful this earth really is, and how special simple moments like this can be.
So I looked up and down, all around, and then back up again, closed my eyes and nodded ‘Thank You” in silent gratitude.
I encourage you to take a moment to stop, look and listen in the middle of something very plain and ordinary that you do all the time, and I’m sure you’ll find something simply magical to be thankful for too.
